3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

Abaco unfortunately. That's an island in the Atlantic.

3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

Drove today with hobdrive active on cell voltage screen. Three cells sagging badly circa 3v when gauge is on half, three more marginal. The one cell I replaced remains head and shoulders above the rest. I think it may be the later version even though it came out of a 2012. It is a different...

3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

Seems I declared victory too soon. Car sat for a couple months on half charge. Then running local short errands I took it down to 2 bars and did a 110 charge to full bars. Made a longer run 23 miles, getting good range circa 4 miles per bar. However on the way back, at about half charge turtle...

    battery replacement in USA

That's my point. This battery technology is relatively (outrageously) expensive. Considering their life, it makes the EV concept just that: a concept.

    battery replacement in USA

This topic is the "rest of the story" when it comes to EVs .. limited range, constant charging anxiety, then batteries die presenting one with a huge dilemma. Sell the vehicle for peanuts, or lay out the cost of a good used IC car to get a replacement. And what is it about these batteries that...

    battery replacement in USA

I would buy one for $5K but not $11K.

lev50n cells in Europe in 2023

Drive around with your hobdrive on, cell voltage screen, you will see the problem is voltage sag in one or more cells, which means they are getting to the end of their life. (good voltage stationary but under load, they dip below 3V thus triggering turtle.) When this happens, you have to stop...

3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

:D I am happy to say that after a few more charging cycles and using hobdrive to level the pack, we now have a 98% soc and were able to easily make a 50 mile trip yesterday without a visit from the turtle limiter, albeit on level ground at moderate speeds. We had 7 bars left. So I am thinking my...

3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

They are spead out. 13 and 38 are the worst saggers. 41 was replaced, it was so far behind the rest of the pack the charger would quit at 4 bars. I got hobdrive cell Balancing to engage but after a few mins it switches off My Bluetooth connection cuts in and out. I would replace the entire...

3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

New cell was higher than the pack when I put it in. It's gradually coming into line. Hobdrive cell Balancing function is inop as best I can tell, get mmessage I have to purchase the full version but I already did that. After overnight full charge, weakest cell is 4.070, most cells at 4.075...

3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

Car is a 2012 and has done only about 26k miles. Climate is warm but hobdrive indicates cell Temps in the high 80s low 90s. I am getting 60 mile range about 4 miles per bar, except the last 5 bars I have to crawl due to the tortoise being triggered by the 3 saggers, or stop periodically. Also, I...

3 cells sagging, tortoise at 6 bars

Tortoise is coming on with 6 bars left. 3 cells are sagging down to 3.5v under normal driving. If I shut her down for a few minutes, tortoise goes away for a while. At rest at 5 bars, all cells are within .05v or so. Car will charge to 16 bars and again, all cells are level within .05v. One cell...

Turtle at Half Charge Under Load?!?!?!

And now something new. Car is dropping bars while parked overnight. Cells still level but down fractionally. It got unusually cold here, down to 60 vs the normal 75 to 80.

Turtle at Half Charge Under Load?!?!?!

I replaced a cell last year that was lagging at rest after a full charge. That cell is a trooper, the strongest cell in my pack. And my pack now gets up to 16 bars when charged (vs 3 before). Now a new problem unfortunately. All my cells are strong at rest after a charge however 13, 87, 38 now...

    Fuel gauge vs tortoise

16 bars today! Have not seen that since 2018. Wife's birthday. Taking her out for lunch in the Purple Peril!

    Fuel gauge vs tortoise

Have not really driven the car any distance since the surgery as this is a vacation home car. Right after the single cell swap was getting 13 bars. Then 14. 9 months later, put the accy batt back in car and ran it through a few partial cycles. The replacement cell is still about 0.1V higher...

    Replacing 4 cell pack

The rest of the story: I got the bad cell i removed up to about 3.6 V and then i noticed something: there are some physical differences between this (yellow) cell and the blue cells i bought, supposedly same model year. The terminals on the yellow cells have a locating button on both terminals...

    Replacing 4 cell pack

Replaced offending cell and now my bars are back, check engine light is gone too. This situation was brewing for some time, exacerbated by leaving car parked for months on end. Threaded rods are NOT 10 x1 as in the posting on French car forum, the pitch is finer. My cells were yellow, the...

    Replacing 4 cell pack

There are 2 brackets each secured by 3 10mm bolts just north of the trailing arms. Not clear what they do but they have to come out w a 12mm socket. There is also an electrical connector left rear that's hard to see. 17" clearance to bottom of battery, covers off, is absolute min to slide...

    Replacing 4 cell pack

About to lower pack by the threaded rod method. I read that some brackets need to be removed, but I did not encounter any. Just a bunch of wires front, each side and back. One earth wire. 8 bolts. Did I miss something?
