On July 7th this year, Mitsubishi launched solar-powered charging stations at their North American headquarters in Cypress CA.
The charging station includes two 110-volt charging ports, one 220-volt charging port, and one CHAdeMO quick charger. The general public can use the charging stations during business hours for free. The 2012 Mitsubishi i, which is what the Mitsubishi i-Miev is being called in North America, can be recharged to about 80% battery capacity in 25 minutes on the CHAdeMO charger. A 20-minute charge on the Mitsubishi i-Miev is good for about 43 miles according to Yoichi Yokozawa, the president of Mitsubishi Motors North America.
The charging station consists of 96 – 175W photovoltaic modules produced by Mitsubishi Electric. The DC quick charge was produced by Eaton Corp. The station was designed by California Green designs, and was built to provide shade for the Mitsubishi i-Miev while charging the i-Miev at the same time.
In Japan and Europe, Mitsubishi has already sold about 10,000 i-Mievs since the launch in mid-2009.
