evaluate battery of used 2012 on dealer lot/test drive, HOW?

Our App EvBatMon has an iPhone version (see links in the footer of this post).

    Diagnostic battery before buy

The iMiEV is quite fussy about OBD so we recommend the OBDlink LX or MX as the most reliable way to connect to the iMiEV, although some of our users have reported success with cheap clone OBD so worth giving it a try. Our App EvBatMon (links in the footer below) is available for Android and iOS...

Can Bus Reverse Engineering for the iMiev

I know of a guy Thomas who has done exactly that to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, however the CANbus data is pretty much identical to the iMiEV. Infact his solution sits in the electrical cable from the accelerator and not on the main CANbus. You can read about the product he created here -...

    Outlander PHEV thread

According to this, the PHEV can be ordered in both USA and Canada now - http://www.myoutlanderphev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3211 After contacting a half dozen dealers within about 6 hours driving time from me here in southwestern Colorado, I am happy to learn that the 2018 Outlander...

    Mitsubishi on Capacity Loss

I think the biggest factors differentiating laptops and phones from EV are battery temperature and average SOC. Its almost impossible to control cell temperature in a phone or laptop, other than shut off charging when cells get too hot. SOC in a laptop often sits at 100% which is also not good...

Best charging practices for battery longevity

Its a real pity the Outlander PHEV is not available over there in USA as its a perfect 2nd car to the iMiEV. And like you, I kayak too!

    EVBatMon Readings

Correct, PMC = Percentage of Manufacturer's original Capacity, so 78% PMC = 22% degradation. This assumes the battery pack has been in the vehicle for a while as the BMU needs a good bit of data to calculate an accurate battery capacity. Discharging to <2 bars (flashing) from a full charge and...

    Mechanical Timer for Charging?

I used this https://www.jaycar.com.au/mains-timer-with-lcd/p/MS6110 timer for my iMiEV and it worked fine for a year and then died from an issue with the relay, no fire or any damage outside the case. The specs specifically say - I assume you are wanting to start charging at 10pm due to a...

My Car is Only Charging Up to 12 Bars

To connect your Android phone/tablet to your iMiEV a Wifi or Bluetooth OBD adapter is required. For iOS only Wifi OBD adapters are supported. The iMiEV is quite fussy about the OBD so for EvBatMon we recommend Scantools LX or MX for the best connection.

My Car is Only Charging Up to 12 Bars

You would need to go to your dealer or connect EvBatMon or caniOn to your iMiEV to find out any more regarding the source of the issue. EvBatMon displays the current Ah capacity of your battery which is an accurate indication of the state of your battery. RR can vary due to - Heater/Ac use, tyre...

My Car is Only Charging Up to 12 Bars

That's pretty recent. Did it get more than 5 hours of charging before you drove it again?

My Car is Only Charging Up to 12 Bars

How long would you say (in Time and Km) since you did a full charge from <2 bars, including enough time to balance considering I doubt 5 hours is enough)? Are we talking months or years, and 10,000km or more?

My Car is Only Charging Up to 12 Bars

Remember it is only after you drop to <2bars (ie flashing) that the BMU will trigger cell balancing when the battery is subsequently fully charged. If what you say has been going on for many months, cell balancing may not have happened to your battery in a LONG time and could easily explain a...
