The Troubleshooting and Repair for On-board Charger (OBC) Thread

You are right. It was not getting charged. The dealer replaced a "high voltage fuse" (a $100 part). Is this likely the fuse you are talking about? Is it likely that it the new fuse blue again when the dealer was testing the car? Thanks for the tip. I'll look that up. Thanks

The Troubleshooting and Repair for On-board Charger (OBC) Thread

Thanks Coulomb and Kiev. Can I do this with a multimeter? I have a decent multimeter, but not much more for testing electronics. That capacitor seems to have 3 terminals. If a multimeter will work, what resistance values would be good or bad? Between which of the 3 terminals? I assume I'd...

The Troubleshooting and Repair for On-board Charger (OBC) Thread

Does anyone have suggestions on where to buy quality capacitors (I'm in the USA)? A quick search on eBay shows there are capacitors rated up to at least 40kV. Would a 1000 pF, 15 KV "Cera-Mite" capacitor be a bad idea? Are all capacitors from eBay a bad idea?

The Troubleshooting and Repair for On-board Charger (OBC) Thread

Did anybody notice what the Murata data sheet says about these DEH series capacitors: See pdf page 60 (paper page 58) in this document: https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/281/c85e-522724.pdf I added the bold. I guess we use them anyway because there isn't a better option? Do you think it was...

The Troubleshooting and Repair for On-board Charger (OBC) Thread

Thanks for the information Coulomb. The traces in that area are on the bottom side of the PCB, right? Anyway, I'll try the hand tool method. I had only LOOKED at the potting material and I assumed it was a hard epoxy. Now that know it's a rubbery material (silicone?), I can see that...

The Troubleshooting and Repair for On-board Charger (OBC) Thread

I apologize if this if this has been answered, but I"m struggling with the terminology in this thread -- vertical pcb (I don't see one), dog house??? Anyway, I'm attaching 2 pictures (I hope). I think that's a capacitor that's completely burned up. Am I right? Assuming it is, does someone...

    First Wreck???

Fjpod said: "I grabbed the bumper with my bare hands and pulled it out. I was kinda shocked how easy it was." Yep, I did the same thing on both sides. However, I don't think the bumper is quite as flimsy as it appears. To bend the bumper bend in, it appears to bend the brackets at either end...

    First Wreck???

OK, I would say it doesn't even qualify as a wreck after all, just a fender bender - and hardly that. :D There is a U-shaped crossmember at the rear of the car that is the structure for the rear bumper. It is bolted to the rear of the car with a couple of angle brackets. These two brackets...

    First Wreck???

Well, I think my car was the first i bought in the continental USA. My wife was driving it today, and she just got rear-ended. Does this make mine the first to be wrecked? I haven't seen the car yet, so I don't know how bad the damage is. She says the "rear end is pushed in to the...

Electric Motor Unit Warning Light When Using Remote?

Sorry I'm so late to this thread. My car does have the CMU recall done, and I have a Legrand L2EVSE16 level 2 charging station. I do have the warning light problem with the remote, and my car behaves just as described by others.

    Warranty Work Done?

My car came with a tire out of balance. It would vibrate a bit above 50 mph. It was probably a rear tire as the steering wheel didn't shake significantly. Unfortunately it took me three trips to the dealer to get it fixed because they couldn't feel the vibration. Even when I took the mechanic...

    ASC and Neutral

You beat me to the punchline. We got just enough snow this morning for me to "test" out my i-MiEV some more. First, to hopefully avoid confusion (or maybe create it :D ) I'll start with my definitions: ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) - Keeps the wheels from locking-up (skidding) when you...

iMiEV in a Pickup Truck? Not pretty.

You just need a snowmobile deck for your truck. :P Just kidding, they seem to be rated for only 2000 lb. And getting the car on it could be a little difficult.

    ASC and Neutral

My daughter and I took our MiEV out in the snow a month or two ago. While I wasn't concentrating on HOW the stability control works, it did make it nearly impossible (at least at speeds under 30 mph) to get the car sideways. Although, applying the parking brake quickly "solved" that problem...

    Residual Values

The i-MiEV is so unknown that I would think it's resale value would drop faster than the Leaf because no one will be looking for one. But hopefully my logic here is wrong. :D
