Hi,

Should I buy a 2014 i-miev with quick charge? It has 7,000 miles. Price is $10,000. It's from CarMax.

I bought an i-miev for that amount in 2015. I'd like to pay less.

I may go for a Mitsubishi Mirage or Nissan Leaf for less.

Hi prodigious1one,

I'm in Asheville, NC, and probably looking at the same car, in Atlanta?

From a distance it looks good.
There are several posts here about what to check.

For me, the asking price is over my max.

Please let me know if you don't buy it!

Thanks and good health, Weogo

I agree - It's always nice to pay less ;)

I bought our second '12 for $8700 with 3K miles on it 4 years ago - It was like new in every way . . . . and less than 1/3ed of what we paid for our first one when we bought it new

I do like buying ultra low miles cars a few years old. 1MiEV's with less than 10K on them are getting harder to find and since it's a '14, the warranty still has a long way to go. If I was in the market for another one, I would probably offer $9K . . . . and then end up paying $9.5K for it *if* they came off the 10K by just a little. Hard to say if you'll ever find a nicer one . . . . and really, who wants a Leaf??

Hi Don,

Is the warranty transferable?

My understanding is often a warranty only applies to the original owner.

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Most all new car warranties are easily transferable to subsequent owners. The 3 year, 36K Basic warranty is probably gone, but the 5 year, 60K power train warranty is likely still in force and for sure the 10 year, 100K battery warranty is still in effect. All warranties begin whenever the vehicle is first placed in service (usually when it's first sold) so it is possible for a warranty on a 2014 car might not begin until sometime in 2015, or possibly even later - All depends on when it was sold, or when the dealer placed it in service if it was used as a demo. You should be able to look up the VIN on the Mitsu website to find out what you need to know

Hey,

I didn't buy the i-miev, but I test drove it and it's great!

I bought a Leaf instead.

It'll be nice to experience the leaf and compare it to the i-miev.

I miss my 2012 i-miev. If only it had had a quick charge, then I would have enjoyed it more.

There's still a description online from the Mitsubishi newsroom for the 2014 i-miev: http://media.mitsubishicars.com/channels/2014-i-MiEV/presskits/2014-i-miev-press-kit

I hope that Mitsubishi pursues updating the i-miev. It's a very cool car.

Hi Aaron,

I hope you enjoy the Leaf, and thanks for posting!
The press kit info is appreciated too!

Did you get any sense they would come down in price for the I-MiEV?

Don,
I found this good news about warranty transfer here:
https://www.mitsubishicars.com/owners/service/warranty

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Hi Weogo,

Maybe if you have a car to trade then CarMax would lower the price.

Call them or send a message through their website.

Happy New Year!

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

I still use my truck for work.
My wife's Honda Fit is our long distance driver.

Am hoping to get down to Atlanta soon.
Does the I-MiEV have the 120V charger and remote?
Anything else you can say about it?

Don,
On the Forum, is there a list in one place of all the things I should check on a used I-MiEV?

Wow, Carmax now has a 2016 in California, 7K miles, $9600!

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Hi Folks,

We had Carmax deliver the car from Atlanta to Greenville, SC, and we went and bought it yesterday.
Pretty much looks new.

The original owner's manual is missing, and Carmax said they will reimburse us for buying one.
) Anybody know of a good source?

Carmax sold it with 'all original equipment'.
It came with a remote and I'm going to insist they provide one.
) Any ideas of sources, other than the dealer?

They put the car up on a lift and I looked underneath and saw almost zero rust.
(There was a very slight bit on the CV joints.)
The one place I did find rust was on the steering column, in the cabin, right above the floor.
) Is this common, or a problem? I will likely just sand, prime and paint it.

This is the basic ES model with the in-dash CD player.
It also has the factory accessory USB port.
The port charges my phone, and a USB icon shows up on the CD/radio screen, but
I could not get music from the phone to come out the speakers.
) Is there some trick to this?

Looking at the flat repair stuff I see a can of fix-a-flat with
an expiration date of January, 2018, so will be replacing this.
There appear to be a couple empty slots in the white foam holder.
) Is there anything missing, or are those just spots to stash some little tools?
The online photocopy of the manual shows wingbolts for accessing the spare tire stuff -
this car has combo straight / #3 Philips screws. Will be putting a screwdriver in the glovebox.

Odd observation: I was a carpenter for many years and have a pretty good eye for plumb and level.
The left meter with the 16 bars is tilted about 1 degree. I think I can live with this. : -)

The 81 miles to get home was a bit of an adventure.
We used more energy than I expected road testing the car,
I hadn't checked the actual miles from where it was to home, and
going up mountains really does take significant energy, even driving fairly slowly.
Last night was below freezing, with winds gusting around 40mph.
Basically just took more time.
I used a free 240V charger at a restaurant to 15 bars,
another free 240V one at a Community College to 12 bars to get to the next stop,
an EVGo chademo for the last bit. Got home with 6 bars and 22 miles on the range-ometer.

I now have even greater respect for the amount of energy in a gallon of gas!!

I couldn't figure out how to post pictures so please look here:

Thanks for reading along, Weogo

I dunno about the printed version, but a PDF is here: https://mcarsstatic.cachefly.net/pdf/owners/support/technology/2014%20IMIEV%20Owners%20Manual.pdf

Hi WMC,

Thanks for the link!

I was hoping it would tell me how to get USB audio from my phone out the speakers, but there's no mention of this.
But now I do know how to set the clock!

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Wish I knew you sooner. We had this one posted on Atlanta's Craigslist.
