There are two boards in an 8-cell module, the first or primary board has the controller chips, and the secondary board just reports the voltage and temperatures to the primary board. Does this look like what you found?

The left board is a Cell Monitoring Board that is found in each module whether 4 or 8 cell. The right hand board is only found in the 8-cell modules. The CMBs report voltage and temperature to the BMS and also control balancing circuits.

The main BMS is in a little plastic box under the rear seat. Each of the CMB's (there are 12 total for 88 cell packs) talk to the BMS over the CAN communications buss.
