LED Lighting

Thu Jan 21, 2016 8:41 am

Hi, just wanted to make it's own thread. Maybe we can move the LED light conversions over here so they are all in one section. Inside and outside LED

I installed the LED in the inside dome lights last night. MAN is it bright !
It came in a pkg of 2 so I just did 1 front and the 1 back dome. It is so bright that I just have the back dome go on when you open the doors. It lights up the WHOLE interior and even my portable garage !

I like it. Can't wait till I change out the T10 LED exterior Lic Plate, markers and Cyclops brake light.

Edit to put in links

So what's the exact LED that you bought?

But I have not put these in just yet, I will when it gets a little warmer out and I don't have to have gloves on. :)

Small update on the Cyclops brake light that I replaced the bulbs in.
I left one original in, I now know that the Original is BRIGHTER then the other 3 I replaced with LED.
I have not put them back in, but just wanted all to know that the original ones are bright !

Thanks for the heads up. For now, I have no plan on changing the brake lights with LEDs.

I found a good led replacement lamp for the W5W lamps used in exterior side markers and license plate lights. Its smaller (fits better), uses only 3 smd's that point in different directions (lights evenly) uses less power while still being brighter than the original lamp.

I just ordered LED replacements for backup (standard model # 7440), and for rear/brake (standard model # 7443).
I got them from Superbrite LEDs.
I ordered the 7440 backup as a Superbrite model
Part Number: 7440-CW3W-G
UPC: 847781042375
This lamp should be brighter than the stock backup light.

I ordered the 7443 rear/brake as a Superbrite model
Part Number: 7443-R30-CBT
UPC: 847781071276
These are not as bright as I wanted, but we will see how they work.

I'll keep you informed how well they work.

Hello again; and hello to "tigger",
Thanks for your posts.
I already replaced my "cyclops light" lamps with LEDs from Superbrite LEDs. (I am NOT a paid spokesman. :D But I have bought from them before. LOL)
I replaced the standard model # 921 lamps with
Part Number: 921-RHP9-T
UPC: 847781009286
I bought 4 of them. They are easy to put in. But they are polarity sensitive. If you put them in, put in one at a time, and test with the brake pedal. If they do not turn on, rotate them 180 degrees in the socket and test again.
These are NOTICABLY brighter than stock. I like 'em.

Modification to my last post about "cyclops" lights replaced with LEDs. When I replaced all four lamp in the cyclops light, I started getting warnings from my antilock brake system via the warning light on the dash. I brought my I-Miev into to the Mitsu dealer in Vancouver, Washington. (Highly recommended - great service manager). The service mech said that the CAN (Controller Area Network) system was confused by the low current draw in the cyclops light. Who knew? So, the mech replaced my LEDs with incandescent lamps. and the antilock brake warning light stayed off.

I really wanted the brighter LEDs, so I opened up the cyclops light again, and replaced just two of the incandescent lamps with LEDs. A little brighter in the light, and the CAN system seems to like it enough so that the antilock brake warning does not come on.

TMI, I know, but . . . .

Trying to replace incandescent lamps with LEDs in all my light. But the taillight/brake light bulb does not seem to be accesible. I take off the taillight housing, and only see wire going to the taillight/brake light. And I can't find a way to get the bulb out. Anyone know how to do that?

Thanks,
