8% of those who responded in the Verge poll said they would buy it - That's actually a pretty good number, likely higher than you would get for many more conventional vehicles. If they'll actually put their money where their mouths are, that could be a good sign that the Solo might be a viable alternative to cars

______
From The Desk of Jerry Kroll

A month after the introduction of the SOLO at the Luxury and Supercar Show on September 9th, I am pleased to have over 350 private reservation deposits and additional letters of interest from corporations. The amount of media attention that SOLO received was beyond my expectation. Congratulations to the Electra Meccanica Marketing and Sales team for pulling that together.

The first pre-production SOLO (white) just passed 2,000 kilometres of road testing. I enjoy early morning weekend drives up the big mountain roads just north of Vancouver, putting load on the drive and suspension, and watching the cyclists and wheel skiers gaping and pointing as I drive by. The car is performing as well as the test chassis did before it, and is much more comfy having a cabin, heating, stereo and windshield!

Pre-production SOLO 2 (red) is being completed for Federal Compliance testing for North America and around the world. The red colour is gorgeous, for those of you who chose that! There will be an additional centre mounted headlight for US compliance (3 wheel motorcycle category) that looks so nice we will make it an option for everyone to consider. It looks a bit like the classic Ford Torino hood scoop, but with lights. I’m ordering that on my own SOLO for sure, as more lights are always a good thing. I am pleased to show you the initial image below, and we’ll have full renderings and actual photos available before anyone needs to make a decision. Non-US customers can still order the SOLO as it is now without the centre light.

Our Canadian production team is sorting out the 2017 build schedule, and getting jigs and templates sorted out for ease of assembly. This is a priority, so our first reservation holders can begin enjoying their SOLOs, and sharing their experiences with others.

I also plan on pulling 3 or 4 cars aside for “Dynamic Winter Testing” which is a clever way of saying "Driving around on Frozen Lakes." This is planned for early February, as long as the weather is nasty enough to make it worthwhile. I’m looking for minus 20℃ or colder. Our batteries are rated down to minus 35℃, and we’ll be verifying cabin heating, handling, etc., and testing our own ability to take the cold winter weather. I’m looking forward to seeing our team and SOLOs in those conditions, and will report the results.

I’d also like to invite you to our Electra Meccanica Christmas Open House again this year, at our Vancouver Headquarters on Thursday December 15th from 4-8pm. It’s your chance to meet the EMV team, see the cars, buy some SOLO jackets, t-shirts and toques for Christmas gifts, and get ready for probably the most exciting year that our Company will ever have. It’s going to be exciting! Please RSVP to us at [email protected] so we can expect you.
