I installed a Torklift Central tow bar on my car!

A bunch of photos for you at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10157213115550165.1073741977.866440164&type=1&l=e6585c74d1

While the installation should have been pretty simple, It ended up taking quite a bit of time. The install kit did NOT include a little piece of wire designed to pull a bolt through a hole with. (It's supposed to have two, one for a 1/2" bolt, and one for a 3/8" bolt, it was missing the 3/8".)
Surprisingly, it is actually sort of a precision tool, not easily replaced by some other piece of wire, magnets, etc.

Also, one hole exactly DID NOT line up with one on the frame. I had to snug everything together with a ratchet strap, to flex some of the parts to line up.

Overall, the hitch is SUPER HEAVY DUTY, and is likely the most solid thing on the entire car. Probably doubles the safety rating when getting rear-ended!

How much does it weigh?

Also, in one of the pics I thought I saw the Rasberry i-Miev?

If that's what it is, what are your plans for it?

It's a shame the Torqlift hitch costs so much. It looks very similar and has identical ratings to the Hidden Hitch I have on my Mazda . . . . which cost $100

I guess if you're designing and building something for a car which didn't sell very well, you've gotta recoup your costs some other way . . . . like charging double or triple for it

I do still have the raspberry water-damaged iMiEV.
The electronics are shot. Body panels are all brand new. There's only a few parts missing off of it, most notably the rims. If somebody wants to buy parts, or the whole thing, make me an offer. It even has a clean title.

Maybe you should install a forklift motor in it?

Build a custom battery that fits into the existing battery box?

Hey Guys! Yep, lots of adventures lately, mostly tearing down my garage. I've also used the towing ability a fair number of times. Pulling a 12'x6' utility trailer works great!

For the garage, the plan is to rebuild, larger, with insulation, heat, and lots of solar panels on the roof. In the mean-time, I rewired my breaker panel onto my back porch so that I can still charge on 240V!

My latest is that I just crammed some insulation under the dashboard on the driver's side of my car. Although the ethanol heater works well, not having an engine (or even a real firewall) in the front of the car sure lets a lot of cold air in! I tucked some "radiant barrier" style insulation in there. It's easy to work with, flexible, etc., which makes it work in such an odd-shaped space. I was also able to tuck it under the carpet.

I hope that having the insulation under the carpet and then all the way up and under the accelerator and brake should help keep some cold air out and heat in.
Here's the blog entry on it: http://300mpg.org/2016/11/01/insulating-an-electric-car/

Here's the start of me cramming some insulation in there.

Here's what it looked like when it was all done:

The weather has been oddly warm lately. I won't know how well the insulation works until it gets colder out. The other thing is that if I'm not happy with the insulation, it's very easy either to remove or add more insulation.
