Those make that leg of the trip easier.

BTW, are you taking a drone? I think that you could get some amazing shots with one on this record breaking trip!

You know, I hadn't thought of that... I will have a GoPro, and a very good video recorder, but a drone?
Hmm...
Interesting thought. I actually HAVE a drone, but no video capability....
Reading back through this thread, though...I am intrigued by the thought of regenerative recharging going from Flagstaff westward. This should also work from Oatman to Topock, UNLESS west winds are a major
Factor.

I'm no expert on drones, but I've watching the Jehugarcia YouTube channel and he uses drones rather effectively:

If you refer to a map with altitudes, you will see the leaving Flagstaff and going west on the 40 is downhill. It should make for a long run!

rkarl89203:

Given the variety of possible charging outlets, could you share what charging cord, adapters and/or surge protectors you are bringing with you?

I think that RV parks and campgrounds typically have 120v and 240v available in 14-30 or 14-50 outlets and have read that the consistency of the electricity varies based on the age of the campground. I have also read that a surge protector should be used to check the voltage and connections, such as: http://trci.net/products/surge-guard-rv

I don't know much about RV parks and campgrounds but we would likely need to plan for their use to enable our eventual travel on I-17 to Prescott and Flagstaff.

In any event, thoughts on the subject?

Absolutely. We will be carrying our EVSE upgrade cord for Level 1 7mph charging from a regular outlet.
Also we have a NEMA 14-50 adapter cord for "50 amp" charging with our EVSE upgraded cord..
Testing at 3 seperate campgrounds here in Illinois has yielded a 16 mph charge with the NEMA 14-50 , comparable to a Level 2 charger.
We will bring a surge tester/protector but we havent purchased one yet.
On my solo return trip, RV parks and campgrounds will be a large part of my charging plan.
145 days left!
Looking forward to our awesome trip !
The actual Itinerary with chargers will be posted soon.

By the way we continue to enjoy our great little imiev. Did regenerative braking on our way to and from
Great Lakes NTC yesterday, using chargers on a side trip to Palatine (Round trip total 190 miles.)
We got amazing miles from the Regen . If we can do similar on our trip we can really save some time and money.

You can rent a portable Chademo charger from evseadapters.com, it'll make the charging quicker. Of course, if you're charging while you're sleeping, that's a nonissue.
Quite a journey you have planned, and plenty of opportunities to discover interesting points along the way - looking forward to following your progress!
I've found wind velocity to be the single greatest impact to my range on flat land - your eastbound trip will likely be easier for this reason.
