Welcome to the forum.

It sounds to me that you are starting to see normal battery degradation. At some point, your car should do a recalibration and this issue should go away, except that each bar will disappear quicker than before.

Thx for reply,my car is 2011 and I called my dealer Sime Darby Motor Service Limited Hong Kong, they said my vehicle and battery both have 3 years warranty only, that mean no any warranty for my car since expired. While I check that Mitsubishi JP/US/UK/AU website also have guarantee battery warranty for 8 years or 100,000km, so how can I prove that my dearler warranty for me is right or worng?

hkbob123, welcome to the forum. Nice to have someone from your part of the world join us. Yours is the first time I have heard of 'turtle' appearing before the fuel gauge shows 'zero'. I agree with PV! and, starting from two bars or lower, I would plug the car in and leave it alone to fully fully charge itself up all the way until it turns itself off, as this should allow it to recalibrate. Does your normal charging routine normally stop prior to fully charging the car?

Regarding warranty, it is my understanding that warranty is tailored by the manufacturer/seller for each sales area, with the North American 10yr/100Kmile being the most liberal.

Hi JoeS,nice to meet you
I am always full charge my imiev to 16 bars every night, but still can't make calibration automatically.
Since nissan leaf owner can upgarde 2nd gen battery for 190km RR for free in Hong Kong,so I wish Mitsubishi do the same thing to solve the problem.

Mine did the same thing in 2013. Mine is also from 2011. When I was driving it near my house, in a small hill showed turtle for a moment, and at home stoped like yours. With one bar. The turtle is sign of one cell at 2, 75 V, in this case, and not of low SoC. Then, for some months, I knew that my 0, 0% SoC was at one bar, so I was allways charging it before it goes to two bars. But one day, I don't know way, it recalibrated its capacity, and could use again the energy to turtle, and I could do some miles again with turtle. But since that day with each bar I do less miles, every bar values less energy then before. So , I advise you to go to Mitsubishi and ask them to do a procedure to recalibrate your battery.. Here in Portugal the warranty is 5 years or 100.000km.

Lei Ho HK Bob! My Lo-Po is from North Point, so we get back to HK every couple of years, but I had seen very few i-MiEV on the streets.

Sorry to hear of your trouble, but I agree with Malm's response that the turtle comes on when one cell reports low voltage, so I wouldn't have expected such a quick shutdown with gentle driving. Here's hoping that the battery recalibration takes hold soon. Now that we have a guide on how to replace a single cell, you might start watching on CanIon to see if it is a single cell that is going low before the others.

I bet if you let your i-MiEV with 9 bars for some time (2 hours), when you come back it will show you only 8.

This is because, in that time, it will correct the SoC accordingly with total voltage.

Thank you for all nice guys reply,I will contact dealer soon, hope that the battery is ok and no need to replace since my warrant alreay expired.

Now this happened to me also. When I was driving with one bar, suddenly the turtle showed and after 50-100 m the car stopped. After recharge it worked as normal.

I think this happened to me because my 12V battery was drained a couple of weeks earlier, enad then maybe the SoC calibration got messed up by thinking the car was brand new?

You are sure that the turtle is a sign that one cell is at 2,75 V (or close)?

Do you remember how long it took to recalibrate? Strange it did not recalibrate immediately?

Yes, I'm sure turtle is a sign of 2,75 V in one cell, if SoC is one bar or more. I saw it with Canion.

I had to wait something like 5 months to see it recalculate it's capacity.
