Some of the UK cars came with the remote - my late 2012 has the remote, but my parents early 2012 does not, and there is indication of a minor face-lift during the 2012 year, relating to Right hand drive cars, so perhaps the Oz cars are more like the UK ones - though there is no betting on it, as we have largely progressed to EUDM spec with RHD, rather than JDM spec with EU complaince - mainly as more and more cars are produced in factories nearer to market. Thats not the case with the IMIEV though, and I think they are still one of the more classic JDM spec cars with EU regulatory compliance - i.e. it's JDM spec with rear fog lights - as was traditionally the case.
I'll bet a fair amount the Uk and Oz spec cars are nigh on identical spec - other than miles on Uk vs Kms in Oz.
The remote is pretty primitive, looks like a standard issue early 2000's item, charged at £1200... it's an outlier in terms of design and quality - a factory retro-fit in design if you like. I have probably used in a dozen times in 4 years - mostly to pre-heat or defrost in the winter - which is actually extremely handy, and probably saves a good few miles of range.
