Mitsubishi i as self-service rental car

We're in Nice, France, while on a long road trip through southern Europe in our 2000 Honda Insight. I've never seen so many Mitsubishi i's in one place (well, they're actually Peugeot iOn's). Auto Bleue has placed 126 electric cars, most of them iOn's, conveniently around Nice as sharable cars. I wonder whether something similar would work in a large American city. Mitsubishi needs to be working with some American city to make this happen!

There are a few in the US on a much smaller scale.
