Since the remote is so limited, Mitsu didn't see fit to give us an easy option to terminate charging at 80% or thereabouts, and all previously discussed charging energy consumption logging products have either operational or budgetary shortcomings, I took a look at the world of home automation.
*not an area I am experienced in, so any practitioners please pipe up.
The leading product I've come across thus far for Level II charging control via web/smartphone is

Take that $120 plus a $99 wifi/wireline controller, and it appears that one could activate and suspend charging from anywhere in the world, plus set automatic schedules. I haven't looked very far into the energy logging part of this equation yet, but there appear to be integrated options.

Note that web-enabled Level 1 charging has many inexpensive options, such as the $109 web power switch by DLI.
