The Mitsubishi iMiev has been highly anticipated here in the US and in Canada. Nova Scotia just reported that Mitsubishi iMiev electric vehicles have arrived at the autoport in Eastern Passage and should be at local dealers in about a week.

Although some Mitsubishi dealers are ready to take delivery, they have to wait until they have their Stage 2 charging stations in place. And once that happens, not just anybody can buy an iMiev. Potential purchasers must take part in a 5 step process, including an interview, completion of a questionnaire, and obtaining an estimate and approval from an electrician indicating they have a place to install the required charger.

Benji Young, sales manager at Metro Mitsubishi in Dartmouth, NS, said "It's important for purchasers to fully understand the unique benefits and challenges of owning an electric vehicle."

The 5 step process is being dubbed a smart introduction strategy with the purpose of avoiding negative press generated by people who expect too much out of their Mitsubishi iMiev and end up stranded with a dead battery.

Mitsubishi doesn't want to complete a transaction only to learn the buyer can't have the charging station installed. As for the questionnaire, it includes a review of the potential owner's driving habits and general awareness of electric vehicles.

Nova Scotia does not currently provide any subsidies towards the purchase price of electric vehicles.
