I see you got the wheels from car-part.com I see lots listed there, though no front wheels specified. I'm interested in the front tires if you still have them... http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi

Assuming these wheels/tires are from 2012 cars, the tires are already more than 6 years old - Why would anybody be interested in buying 6+ year old rubber? You wouldn't put those on a car to drive . . . . would you?

I have OEM tires on my cars which will be replaced this year - Not because they're worn out . . . . they're just too old to be safe

Tis a factor to be sure, though I think that the pendulum has swung a bit far towards absolute caution on modern tires, and the current guidelines of "6 years in use or ten years in stock" makes no distinction between climates. In this mild climate, I'm happy to push toward ten years maximum service with regular inspection. I'm just not seeing tires dry out, stiffen, or show "checking" cracks like they did on the Gulf Coast or in Texas. No illusions here; I've created 'road gators' from flung tread twice- once from an old storage trailer and once on a restoration project en route to the body shop with 20 year old rubber (just wanted them to last till after the paint booth). Both times the casing remained intact (and finished the journey :o )

At 19k miles per year, I don't get much time with a pair of front tires, so I'm willing to quickly use up older stock. If I were in a top-heavy SUV, truck or van, or a vehicle making trips far from home, not so much... Yes, I'm a cheapskate, like many i-MiEV drivers, but for the tire sins you can blame my college job in a Mississippi junkyard driving a salvaged truck on rubber pulled from wrecks!

Well, I guess so long as you know his wheels/tires came from Washington and not Texas, you may be safe for another year or two. I'm a cheapskate too, but I try not to let that over ride my firm belief that saving $50 is not nearly as important as the safety of my family. My cars are stored in a garage and the tires don't show any visible weather checking either, but I think there's much more involved than just checking to see that the tires LOOK Ok. I just know I'm not willing to risk the consequences. I never dreamed anyone would pay $5 (plus shipping) for a 6 or 7 year old tire

I've worked at a tire shop for 12 years should you replace old dry cracked tires? Yes

Do you need to throw out your tires as soon as they're 5 years old? No

I've seen tires going on 9-10 just starting to dry crack

If they're going on a high performance car should you be more cautious because loosing a rear tire on a 3-500 hp car could kill you like Paul Walker (700+ hp 10+ yr old tire on very potentially dangerous car)... Sure

Should you never buy a used tire regardless of condition and cost and rarity of size? That's up to you, if you need to pass inspection or want some spares or need time before you buy a new set, there's plenty of case where it works just fine for your situation

If it weren't a rare size and a new one wasnt over $100 it probably wouldn't be worth the shipping but up to the buyer I'll post the date codes

It's nice to have a good job and be able to afford new stuff, but there are lots of folks working their butts off for not much money who can't afford new tires. So there is a whole other side to our economic spectrum for used tire sales at the budget tire shops.
