What are all the dead switch-panels for?

I have the base radio and no USB down on the bottom. So I know what that's for.

But what about the other ones?

Being in Canada we have the "wide" car. There are switch knockouts on each end of the dash. Curious what would go there?

I read that the dead panel beside the traction control button may be used for headlight height adjustment on cars with that feature.

Just curious what other options are out there that these may have been used for.

Along those lines, anyone want to sell a euro climate control trim panel with the SOS button in it?

Yes. Have the heated seat. But there are 2 more dead spots on the extreme ends of the dash. Both ends actually but the RH side ones are covered up.

I suppose backup sensors were possibly one.

But I am also guessing that the narrow cars do not have these spots. Almost looks like a filler / afterthought.

The dash is the same in both narrow and wide bodied cars. The blank switch positions you're asking about are in the filler pieces they designed so they could use the narrow dash in the wide cars. To my knowledge, none of those blanks were ever used for anything in cars as they left the factory

But if never used, why bother molding in the switch cutouts?

I always like to find out what some dead panels are for.

My favorite is the VW "FUNK" switch over in Europe. I just about lost my mind when I found out there was an OEM switch labeled "FUNK"

I suppose just in case you later wanted to add something. It cost virtually nothing to mold them in there, and if you didn't and later wanted to add something, you would have to mold a whole new piece, which would be very expensive, relatively speaking

Things were probably still evolving when they were designing the wide bodied car and someone was looking to the future??

Well, I now see the heated seat switch seems to be moved to the outside dead panel on the newer cars. I think I am going to move my switch over there.

Below the steering wheel, I cant see when it is on. I usually forget to turn it off when I get to work. Cold in the morning but hot in the afternoon. Roasting my butt too much!

Either that or add an indicator LED into the cluster or something.....

Moved heated seat switch to the outside panel. Now I can actually see it.

Quick and easy to do. 5 mins. Just drop the lower dash panel, unwrap the wire bundle and move the seat harness over to the end panel. wrap wire bundle back up and install back onto lower dash panel.

Not a terribly exciting mod, but easy and I feel it is an improvement.
