I've charged here often and attended quite a few events. It was a lovely spot to take a break and let the car charge. Probably the biggest advantage to having the Electric Garage was that it offered FREE charging, exclusively to EVs.
From the sound of the article, it is already gone, but I haven't been up there since May. The pin is gone from PlugShare (and with it, numerous excellent pictures ), but two freshly discovered charging stations just showed up down the street, which are very likely from the Garage.
When I first got my i-MiEV, this was the second place I've charged (the first being Baum Blvd. Automotive a few blocks away). I parked here and walked over to Phipp's Conservatory. It was also the place where I met my first (and so far, only) i-MiEV driver (she is a member of this forum, but not very active).

As you can see, it became quite the busy place in the last couple of years. That RAV4 parked next to the LEAF in the middle wasn't an EV, but there is a RAV4-EV parked in the background. When I first pulled in, all 7 spots on the left were full (6 J1772 and 1 Tesla HPWC), but there were two more stations that few knew about on the side of the building. That's where I charged.
I'm glad that CMU is re-distributing the charging stations around Oakland, but am very saddened that we lost this gem. A lot of people relied on this location.
