We heard about it, hope for some fast chargers and now something is finally happening.
:D
" The Québec-Montréal Electric Charging Corridor will be the first fast-charging corridor in Québec"

http://news.hydroquebec.com/en/pres...e-quebec-montreal-electric-charging-corridor/
:D
The first of 7 is being inaugurated today, all 7 to be operable this fall.

Still doesn't help me for my location, but it's a move in the right direction .
Who know, I 'll probably make a few trips to Quebec City for the fun of it once they are installed.

I was so happy when I read the e-mail from Circuit Électric this morning - I was in disbelief !
So happy the projects wasn't canned after all.

Ok I'm going to get on my soap box for this post, so my apologies in advance.

I am in full support of the installation of fast chargers by the Cirquit Electrique but seriously question as usefulness or importance of the placement of this corridor between Quebec city and Montreal. I'm sure they have done a study.

In my non expert opinion

I would have preferred to see a Spiders web of High speed chargers surrounding the major cities along the main highway arteries.
These strategically placed, so that the Daily Commuter would have access and the option to SWITCH to an EV with out having to depend on charging at the work place .

This advantage would also work in reverse & open the doors for a city dweller with an EV, making it more affordable to venture further out to the country side to enjoy various sports or events, eg. skiing, golfing, water parks, Spa resorts, camping, beaches, etc.

The savings of fuel for an ice could be enjoyed at these facilities and these rural businesses could enjoy some growth.

Another bit of good news
We have a second fast charger now located in the city of Montreal - near the corner Berrie & Mount Royal, where the commune autos are parked - much better and usable location.

Things are looking up.

:D
Another Fast charger just showed up on Plugshare in Grand Mère , Quebec
Not quite on the Montreal - Quebec city corridor.

If you build it - They will come!

Just keeps on getting better and better!

Great news :D
All the fast chargers are now operating between
Montreal & Quebec city .
located at a maximum distance of 65 km between stations.
However there is no fast charger located in Quebec city yet - only L2 :?

And YES (most important for me) On the North of Montreal route 15
There now appears a fast charger station on Plugshare in Mirabel.
It's located on boulevard Versailles, Mirabel, in the Tim Horton's parking lot,
near the new Premium Outlets shopping center.
:D :D :D
Last time I was there it was only a concrete base and painted green parking spot - have to verify if it's in operation.

:D :D :D Oh Yea!!! :D :D :D
There was a photo taken last night (posted on AVEQ a Quebec forum) of
The AZRA network Mirabel location fast charger.

It's physically there but not in operation yet
This will make my life a lot easier.

My First EV Road Trip Happened
With the help of the Fast charging network opening a corridor from Montreal to Quebec.
625 Km ( 388 miles) in 15 hours

Here are the detailed Legs of the trip that I was able to to record

We kept things conservative & did not try to push for speed or try to travel too far on a single charge.
Especially since we had never been to these charge locations before.

Might help a fellow EV driver if they plan to travel this corridor.
I took some short video clips and will try to edit and put them a link at a later time.

Hope this may help someone planning a Road Trip

I realize how valuable a recording of such a trip on battery temp would be.

I'm sorry joeS -I don't have the canion setup - I'm still a little Fred Flinstone in that field.
One day.....

Just a note that I've added links to some videos of the my trip
to the posting of my journey, should any one be interested.
Also to remind you of my poor video recording skills.

sandange, thanks for posting the videos. The mist on the water at the start of your trip added a surreal effect!. Envious of your fast chargers - they work and no queue. I only use ours under duress as they're much more expensive for me than using gasoline in our Gen1 Insight.

Pleasure to share the experience.
I think most people under estimate what the i Miev is capable of.

It was a lot o fun putting it together.
Yup, I was surprised too with the cool temperature that morning that made for the Video special effects mist.

Happy to report I did the MTL -> QC city road trip as well.
Great job detailing the whole experience Sandage - really likes the videos.
I only stopped a total of 4 times during the whole trip, why did u have to stop so often?

Hi mixmike6

Thanks for the positive comments. We really enjoyed the experience. :D
Hope the videos were of some help in your planning of your trip.
We stopped more often so that we could visit all of the fast charge locations for any future reference, also we live up near St Sauveur - a 1,000 ft elevation climb & a little further north.

Well last weekend my wife and I took our longest iMiev road trip, Montreal to Quebec city. 645 KM round trip inclding local driving in Quebec City.

There are 2 highways to choose from the 20 and the 40, both are covered with quick chargers.
It was 290 km on the way up with. Never more then 60 km between QC stations.

It was an uneventfull trip using the GPS I always had a distance to my next stop and a RR to know I
would get there. It was 4 QC's in total usually from 20-35 % up to 70-80 % so it was an easy run.

A little tiring with all the stops but plenty of chances to stretch the legs.

Most of the driving was between 80-100 kmph but there was traffic bringing down the average speed.
Temp was 26 deg c and I was constantly cooling the battery and the cabin along the way.
The battery was still slowly climbing in temp dispite cooling but the max cell temp stayed under 40 deg C.
Most qc started at 125 amps except for the last one which was 98 amps start. I think the battery was getting hot
and the charging was starting to get limited.

I went up via Highway 20 on the shouth shore of the River. Stayed 2 days for a mini vacation in Quebec.
The hotel had a level 2 so all the local driving there was covered.

On the way back I reversed the route. The temps were cooler starting out at 19 Deg C but it was Thunderstorming and
there was some rain and headwinds also we were heading SW on the way home always a little harder West then East.
The charger spaceing is closer on the Highway 20 as opposed Highway 40 So I stuck with highway 20 on the way back.
On the way back it was 5 QC's, Just the way the numbers worked out to make it home.

My general comments are that it's very doable. When you are on the Highway you are just planning 5 mini trips that add up to one long one.
Each leg you just concentrate on that leg and making sure that you make the next charger. No range anxiety just the worry that the next charger will be
crowded. Also haveing the GPS count down distance and tell you which exit to get off is pretty usefull. It would be a mess to miss an exit.

We traveled up on a Thursday and we were always first at the charger.

On Sat on the way home a different story, We were just lucky arriving 1 minute
before someone else at the first 2 chargers. The next charger we arrived just after a really nice lady with her husband and family. I explained we only
needed 15 minute so they let us charge first. They were stopping for lunch anyways and had a 30 KW leaf so they had at least 30 minute to eat and charge.
So we went first they went into order food, then we texted them when we were done chargeing 15 minutes later. It was win win no delay for either of us.
Next charger we were the only ones but at the last one we arrive and there was a lady with just arrived with a brand new E-Golf. She only had it a week
and was a little new at the EV game. Anyways we had to wait 30 minutes while she filled it up to 80% even though she really only needed a 10 minute charge
to make it home. Oh well.... Not everyone is seasoned.....

ON the way up start with a full charge 10:30 am - 17:23 PM (7 hours) then add 6.358+5.144+6.382+7.942 = 25.8 KWH via QC's Arrive with 32%
ON the way home start with a full charge 10:30-17:00 (6.5 hours) then add 3.186+7.129+7.406+4.881+4.9 = 27.5 KHW via QC's Arrive with 23%

Consumption was from 108 WH/KM to 135 WH/KM depending on the leg. The canion data is fragmented so I can't really give you a nice breakdown. Or rather I
am too lazy to compile everything I have....

Here is a shot of the cell temps on the way up and down should be easy to see the shark fin trend (10-5 was on the way up and 4.5-0 was on the way back).

DonDakin, thank you for recounting the details. Hey, it worked, with minimal inconvenience - and the pricing seems reasonable, unlike our nrgEVgo. On longer trips we consciously get out and go for walks while the car is charging - FitBit incentivizes this.

Hi Don
Nice report & thanks for sharing.
I see how busy it can be on the weekends.
Looking forward to discussing the south shore route you took in detail on Saturday
at the 100% electric family event.
