Take an electric road trip and spend the day (or weekend) visiting picturesque towns nestled among rolling hills in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1914 Electric Sociability Run on June 7-8, 2014 in Charles Town, WV.

Looks like fun! It's only 600 kilometers from my house or 8 hours straight through if I stay off the highways. Could make it in four days - what an adventure that would be. I did a motorcycle trip to WV a few years ago, it was great and I love the country side in that state. Too bad I don't have the time off from work or I'd be giving this a try!

If I can find a place in Uniontown, PA and Cumberland, MD., I can make it. There's a Chevy dealer in Grantsville that sells Volts, so they should have a plug, but it's quite a stretch to the next charging station in Berkeley Springs.

Nice to see some interest and sense of adventure. There was a recent show on PBS about a couple driving across the State of MD in a LEAF. I'm taking a day off and am going to attempt to drive my Fusion Energi (with limited 23-25 range) all electric to WV from So. MD. What should be a 1.5 hour drive will probably be more like 9 hours. I'll be stopping at most locations where there will be things to do. Hybrid mode back though.

Will more specifics be released closer to the event? Playing on Google Maps, I can make to Charles Town in a day, as long as the dealers I picked out have plugs. If I leave at 6 AM with 3, maybe 4, charging stops, I should be able to roll into Charles Town by 10:30 PM. My longest stretch is between Uniontown and Cumberland at 63.6 miles, which will be tight, but the rest is fairly easy. All in all, it's about 180 miles away from me.

I'd love to see the solar canopy at APUS.

Besides, I prove "country-running" everyday. I live about 30 miles out of Pittsburgh.

A few more specifics, based on registration preferences. When you register, you can choose things you are interested in. Not all cars will be going to the same destinations at the same time. We're going to spread things out. Some people will park and charge and go with others. Some people will head to Shepherdstown for lunch and to shop. Some people might go check out battle fields then up to the Tesla Super Chargers. We may have a scheduled time to meet in Martinsburg (3 or 4 pm) for a museum tour too. We will all meet back in Charles Town for dinner, although that will be a choice as well. The Casino has a nice buffet, but kids are not allowed. Spouses and families are coming too. Some people will check out the ghost tours at Harpers Ferry in the evening.

Some people are staying Fri. and Sat. nights, some just Sat., some just Fri. and some are just coming for the day. We'll have to manage the charge needs of everyone into this, but some of our organizers have done it before at larger events.

As of 3:45 PM EST on 5/5, we're at 18 cars (31 people) right now, which is pretty good for just having this out for less than a week.

Here is our planned agenda. http://www.pluginrally.org/planned-agenda/. We're also working on some Google Maps with places of interest, hotels and suggested scenic driving routes.
