Re: Practical solutions for extending cold weather range

Taking a cue from the hypermiling hipsters at Ecomodder.com, and of all places, Chrysler Corp, which is introducing a coolant-heated rear axle on their next pickup, I intend to try a transmission heater this winter. http://fcauthority.com/2018/01/2019-ram-1500-boasts-clever-thermal-management-tech-f...

Re: 2012 wreck with dead on board charger

I'm confused, is this a different car than was attacked by the U-Haul, or did the charger fail right after the roof impact?

Re: Conversions

I'm a big fan of conversions (own three of 'em) and think that the i-MiEV motor would be very well suited for such, but don't have the software chops to do any hacking. Transplanting nearly the entire wiring harness would be in order unless somebody comes up with a 3rd party controller for our inver...

Re: Troubleshooting and repair for On-board Charger, DC-DC Converter

Thx Kenny, I’ll add to #8 that both my DCDC and charger failed at the same time, fixed by replacing with a collision salvage unit. Simply opening and reconnecting a wiring connector will renew the contact surface and break up corrosion, but a cleaning spray like DeOx-it could only help. It appears t...

Re: Now MR BEAN won’t charge!

Thanks Kenny, I was hoping you’d pipe up. Will start looking for the right box. I’m happy to report “Mission Accomplished” on the charger/DCDC swap. With the correct fuse not arriving till next week (only one in the USA dealer inventory system), I routed that juice through a spare solar combiner box...

Here's the spec sheet for our 20A fuse under the inverter inspection cover. Still haven't found an online vendor.

Re: Uhaul attacks my imiev

Ouch, what a bad luck acciDent! I'd encourage you to do the buyback if they total it. That's the flipside of our low valuations, quick to total out, and super-cheap to buy back. I'd put the old wheels/tires back on just in case, but negotiate down to $2500 or less. The last fixable-looking auction c...

Re: Now MR BEAN won’t charge!

Indeed Don- doing our own TPMS handshake with a second set of wheels would be a great DIY tool. My dad had the same issue I originally did at a Discount Tire store, with the service manager claiming success on the data link, "just drive around a while for the light to go away"...... Yester...
