Re: Upgrading the heating system to bioethanol or Diesel fue

pwd, Congratulations on completion of your project! Thanks for sharing the pictures. It looks like the location for the heater you chose is pretty good. Did you install the hoses between original water pump and the PTC heater? It looks like so. Do you have picture of the custom made bracket alone? D...

Re: Upgrading the heating system to bioethanol or Diesel fue

My first test with a Webasto Thermo Top E, a 4 kW gasoline liquid heater, and RE85 (85% bioethanol) has revealed no problems. The heater works fine and there was more than enough heat. The air coming out of the vents was so hot that I didn't want to keep my hand on it for very long. This was in my ...

Re: Upgrading the heating system to bioethanol or Diesel fue

I just had a revelation! If I select fuel lines which can stand ethanol I can feed my gasoline burner 85% ethanol, which you can get at select gas stations here. Thank you for showing us the prices of gas/diesel/heating oil in Finland. It demonstrates how lucky we are here in the USA. When it comes...

Thanks, Sandange, for the images. I did not have the one way valve assembly in my heater kit.

Re: Upgrading the heating system to bioethanol or Diesel fue

I felt the temperature of the return pipe where it enters at the back of the reservoir and it was hot. The diesel heater return and feed pipes were cool. This is a great news and helps to evolve the heating system modification for our cars. :D Could you please share the details where you got the 1-...

Re: Upgrading the heating system to bioethanol or Diesel fue

Sandange, PV1 is right. When you charge and turn the key, the power consumption by the system is very low so you are not making significant compromise. The important thing is that you can operate the blower. Now, when you wire your diesel heater, it has to be permanently connected to your 12V batter...

Re: Upgrading the heating system to bioethanol or Diesel fue

Sandange, Thanks for the nice pictures. Good job! I like your fuel tank in particular. It looks like you have got the new 2014 model because of the nice blue color. In regard of the faulty minitimer, I am hearing this for a second time. You have to contact the seller, they will ship you a new one fo...

Re: Super capacitors to replace 12V battery ?

Combine that with a solar panel somewhere on the car, and you shouldn't have to worry about the 12 volt system going dead again. 8-) And that is exactly the idea I am thinking of. Based on some estimate I made, if I cover the dash under the windshield with ~30 carefully arranged 3x6" solar cel...

Re: Super capacitors to replace 12V battery ?

The specified ultracapacitor has capacity of 58.3 Farads at 16.2 V max. This comes to 4.25 Wh capacity (provided I have figured the calculation right), which is much lower vs. estimated 400 Wh capacity of the OEM 12V battery. Recently, I have measured Amps coming from the 12V battery under various c...
