Re: ChargePoint Charging Question

Excellent! Maybe the engineers still won't listen, but at least they'll hopefully now be aware of the issue.

Re: Weird Charging Curve

I have found that calling ChargePoint and asking them to reboot that station will get the rate to return to 3kW, ... I guess it also has the effect that the staff notice "geez, we're getting a lot of calls about low charge rate, maybe there really is something wrong that the engineers should b...

CAN bus messages on the BMU to CMU private bus

CAN bus messages on the BMU to CMU private bus I'll attempt to give these messages in the format of Decyphering iMiEV and iON CAR-CAN message data . Since these messages are only on the private BMU to CMU CAN bus, and seem to be modified when they reach the BMU and the main vehicle CAN bus, this wi...

Re: Care and Feeding of the OBC/dc-dc

Pressing the button alone without withdrawing the J1772 Turbocord caused the Volt to shut off charging and noticeably turned the charging light on the dash off. Did you hear the contactor in the EVSE drop out as well? Was there a short but discernible (less than a second) delay between pressing the...

Re: Turning OFF power to the car when charging

There are four ways that the car turns off charging - 1. When it is fully charged, the OBC sends a shutoff signal to the EVSE which stops the power flow By this time, the charge current has reduced to a small fraction of rated current. But the principle is still the same (see below). 2. When timed ...

Re: Charging from a variable amperage 240V supply (PV Solar)

Anything is better than selling power to the grid for 3 or 4 cents a kwh and then buying it back overnight for triple that price... You make it sound like it's some sort of scandal. But arguably, paying only the generation cost is fair. In Australia, about a third of the electricity price is for th...

Re: Charging from a variable amperage 240V supply (PV Solar)

Using something like the https://solarimmersion.co.uk/ we could divert excess PV to a 240V socket and plug the iMiev into it... The web site says: For example, resistive loads like immersion heater could be controlled by the proportional controller while inductive loads with electronic components c...

I don't think my picture is showing up on this forum. Same as any forum, you have to dig out the image from all the other web page junk. Re: BMU,Cautions,CMU, SERVICE PLUG, BALANCER,CAN, K-Line

Another interesting find is that the data sent from the CMU to the BMU is formatted as 48 separate CAN PIDs ranging from 0x611-614 up to 0x6C1-6C4 with 2 temperatures and 2 cell voltages each . The msb of the PID, 0x6, indicates cell data, the middle byte which ranges from 1 to C identifies the cmu...

Re: Weird Charging Curve

I think maybe Chargepoint software/firmware is interpreting the i-MiEV's pause as an error, and they play it safe (hedge the bet) by only sending out 120V after that. I find it hard to believe that an EVSE, which already has a mechanism for controlling load (the pilot signal), would go to the troub...
