Re: Replaced My Pack!

Measured pack capacity continues to climb slowly with use. My MUT3 clone now recognizes 33.3 Ah of capacity on the 2012 salvaged pack. I’m doing a lot of driving, as much as 170 miles per day and 3 to 4 DCFC sessions on weekdays and plugged in on L2 the rest of the time... Cell #38 came back into li...

Re: Need to purchase obc unit for 2012 i-miev

The dealer will require that the correct error code be shown by OBDII, and that the 20 amp fuse be blown. I’m actually having to re-install the failed charger in order to get one of the new design, rather than roll the dice on my current junkyard unit with the original defect waiting to surface...

Re: Using a second pack in parallel

Thanks 1kaspars. Too bad that both the Croatian 10 kWH range extender and the RAV 4 battery trailer that’s now for sale https://www.ebay.com/itm/EV-Range-Extending-Trailer-Home-Solar-Energy-Storage-Battery-Pack-41kwh-/163196745088?nav=SEARCH are both significantly more costly than just staging a sec...

Re: USA i-MiEV Sales 2011-2017

The state of Washington just released data on current EV registration numbers. Out of over 50,000 EVs on Washington roads we appear to have 81 i-MiEV, Which is fewer than the 100+ BMW i8, but more than the 22 Fisher Karmas!

Re: Using a second pack in parallel

Here are examples of the sort of battery trailer I am proposing. First we have two RAV4 packs in parallel, so much more complex due to liquid cooling, etc. well done with lots of videos, just a bit verbose, so the first link is a succinct summary from Rich Rebuilds. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb7...

Re: Using a second pack in parallel

1kaspars, here’s an example using a low V battery and a UPS inverter to charge an I-MiEV (from its own back seat). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NlZ6BOzn41g I do similar off-grid charging from the big 48V battery in my tiny home with a 3kW pure sine wave inverter, but of course towing the 3800lb tin...

Re: Using a second pack in parallel

Thank you Gary12345 and 1kaspars I wouldn’t leave 360V exposed in a dangling Anderson connector, but energize the trailer pack’s CHAdeMO contactors with 12V switched from the driver’s seat, so as to parallel the packs only in READY mode. Recharging with an offboard charger is easy enough, but I’d wa...

Re: iMiEV as workhorse

Very fun Joe, though a High Schooler named Brent Singleton beat you to this approach in 2004 with his converted Ford Escort “quadbrid”. His salt flats EV racing camp was powered by wind and sun! See page 8: https://utah.sierraclub.org/sites/utah.sierraclub.org/files/05summerUT.pdf I’ll dare you to d...

Using a second pack in parallel

I'm working a new job 75 miles away, and can get there with one DCFC stop, but would of course prefer not to, and I happen to have my original battery pack just hanging around, with probably 10 good kWh available in it... I recall but am not finding the thread on a European college project that plac...
