Re: Let's Build the California West Coast Electric Highway

I see 2 problems with hydrogen. First, the space people complain that they cannot store hydrogen. On the way to mars they loose more than half of their H2 fuel. First thing on mars they have to convert it with local CO2 to methan so they can store it for some time. Second, it needs a lot of energy t...

Re: static storm on radio, on or off?

Hi braineo,

just in time to prevent me from answering silly things. We do have a storm and aurora lights. And amplifiers can do funny things if controlled electronically only and not by a power switch.

Glad you found it.

Cheers

Re: Battery degradation

My record was 144 kilometers of range in summer two years ago. Two days ago I got 142 kilometers and it was around freezing. That is range not kilometers driven. We have been driving some 50 kilometers, half of them uphill and I had forgotten our 2 kW fan and heater in the footwell. We had some 30 C...

Re: Finally killed my 12 volt battery

Against all odds I succeeded putting 10Ah lead-acid and 2.6Ah NiMH in parallel. Charging with the lad-acid charger no longer works but a 12V DC powersupply for CB-radio keeps them happy at a voltage of about 14.2 volts. NiMH alone might do it. They like overcharging for "balancing" just as...

Re: Fast Charging in Winter Experience

Just for comparing, Mitsu Europe Ruesselsheim (Germany) have a public e8enery CHAdeMO charging. It is not far from the autobahn and it is free. It happened to be almost middle of our trip and back home. The charger can only do 20 kilowatts. Close to the charger we dared meeting the metal with the pe...

Re: Solutions for windshield fogging in cold weather?

Hot and wet wife. As soon as she comes in her side of the car starts fogging. In summer that is no problem, opening the windows a little bit does it. In winter when it is cold and wet outside that turns into desaster. Getting down from the mountains to the Rhine Valley is like hitting a brick wall. ...

Re: Super capacitors to replace 12V battery ?

I actually tried the other way round. I did connect a 10 Ah lead acid and a 2.3 Ah NiMH parallel at the lighter socket. I did get more range. How is that? Somebody with canIon suggests it might be 7% more comparing with and without the aux battery. We have too view numbers to say anything yet. What ...

Re: Charging the 12 vdc Battery

At the connector for the radio there is (+12V battery), (+12V acc), (+12V light) and (+12V from the radio to the antenna) but no ground. There are two screws fixing the dashboard to a metal rod. Both of them can get you ground. Finding that connector in a shop is another story. PowerPoles are a good...

Re: Taking Apart a Flooded i-MiEV

Variable frequency controller? You did not feed some music into a pa system (100 volt system like in railway stations?) I guess the controller is a mess and wants to talk crypted CANBUS to the ECU and the ECU wants to talk crypted CANBUS to the BMU in the first place. Feeding the motor from a differ...

Re: i-MiEV and hamradio or CB-radio

Done some more experiments with radio and batteries. There used to be some noises out of the hood that covers the radio. Longwave 150 kHz to some 300 kHz used to be bad and went out when the motor was running. AM band dead. Opening the hood (our radio is mounted into the hood not the dashboard) I fo...
