Re: Future battery replacement

A newer technology battery with a higher density which weighs the same as our current pack but has a range of 80 to 100 miles instead of the current 60 to 80 miles would be welcome . . . . but the odds of anybody making such a thing as a drop in replacement for our LEV50 packs is . . . . pretty slim...

Re: What tire would you recommend?

Joe had a set of the Yoko's on one of his cars for the full life of the tread and he wasn't very happy with them. I know he strongly felt they cost him a bit of range and the studies show that should be the case - Using non LRR's should cost you 4% in around town driving and 7% on the freeway, or so...

Re: Alignment Issues and Discussions

Even with a correct alignment, the car understeers badly, so if you push it in the corners, you're going to wear front tires much faster than rears. If the tires wear evenly and much of that wear is on the outside edges, that's just the nature of the beast for an understeering car. If you slow down ...

Re: 2012 SE, 24,000k miles = $5,000 ?? MASSACHUSETTS

Trick is 4 dealerships in the region just stopped servicing them. Ugh... I still haven't got the last two recalls done on mine; I guess I better get on it, if it's not already too late. The dealership we bought our first car from was only 10 miles from home and they were excellent . . . . but they ...

If you used it for...

Re: So I bought the i-Miev.

You will save time but who cares, your car is charging all night and ready in the morning, no difference for you whether 12 amps or 16 amps. I don't think i will go for the 240 evse. *If* you live where it's cold and *if* you would like to leave in the morning in a toasty warm car, then L2 might be...

Re: 110 Volt Charging

Yes and yes! A popular modification is to have your Panasonic EVSE 'upgraded' to 12 amps, L1 & L2 - This will allow you to also charge at 12 amps using 240 volts, which is twice as fast as 12 amps at 120 volts Check out http://www.evseupgrade.com Actually, there is no such thing as 110 volts in ...

Re: The Necessity For Grounding An External Gasoline Generator Used For Emergency Charging?

When I posted this on the smartcar forum, it was brought to my attention that this wouldn't work unless the gasoline generator was physically grounded with a grounding rod connected to its chassis and actually driven into the ground. Although I understand the safety reasoning for doing this, I foun...

Re: So I bought the i-Miev.

Welcome! You'll love the car and it sounds like it will work for you just fine. With only a 46 mile round trip to work, you will probably find you won't need to recharge many places other than at home. An L2 EVSE would be a good first purchase. Most of the charging site you pay for are quite expensi...

Re: MiEV newbie needs advice please

The larger consideration for you is the proximity to a franchise dealership. Do you have to have the car serviced by Mitsubishi for the 10 year warranty to stand? if so you'll be island hopping every year.. I don't think that's any consideration at all - What would the dealer be doing to the car ev...
