Re: 12V battery BCI Size?

I *finally* got around to replacing the battery in our second car today. The OEM one was 7+ years old and had never shown any signs of getting weak, but I prefer to change things before they cause me problems. Used a Miata AGM again like I did in the first car 3 or 4 years ago. Ordered from Battery ...

Re: Got Solar!

ed5000, your tankless water heater is drawing 112.5 amps at 240vac?? . . . . and no matter when it runs, day or night, it will be using juice from the grid because your solar can't supply that kind of power, can it? A standard 55 gallon electric heater with a 4 Kw lower element wired to run on 120 ...

Re: Got Solar!

I installed a 4 by 10 foot (AE40) solar water heating panel on my roof 12 years ago with two 55 gallon storage tanks in the basement. Total coast was about $3K but I got half that back when I filed my taxes. It has paid for itself many times over and I figure the electricity it saves me is about the...

No, not a scandal, per se, but close sometimes and yes, it is fair to not get back the same amount as you pay because the distribution costs are a large part of the overall price But we do have our . . . . well, I guess maybe 'scandals' is the appropriate word built into what we pay over here in man...

Re: Charging from a variable amperage 240V supply (PV Solar)

There are people buying up used Tesla battery modules to store excess power because the power company only pays them a fraction of what they charge you when you buy that same power back from them after the sun goes down. I think the older Model S has 13 modules in it's traction battery and if you ca...

Re: Charging from a variable amperage 240V supply (PV Solar)

The charger in the car communicates with the EVSE which powers it with regards as to the available current. If the inverter with your solar array can supply 6, or 8, or 10 amps @ 240 VAC, then set the EVSE for that number and the charger in the car will never exceed that current draw. Now, if a clou...

Re: Care and Feeding of the OBC/dc-dc

After storing our original car for several months, I replaced the 12 volt with an AGM Miata battery and it has worked fine. Need to do that with the second car real soon Since the charger's failures all seem to be heat related and since it gets hotter here in the summer than most places, I've given ...

Re: power windows not working

I tried to roll up all the windows at once while on chademo charging . . . . . So I assume it isn't the fuse. My first inclination would be opposite, that it just might be the fuse. Maybe it was sized for 'normal operation' which would be just one or two windows at a time and doubling that current ...
