Re: Range extender !

Don wrote, in part, as a reply...FWIW I completely agree with him. "If you need to go farther or faster, you should look into buying a car which has those capabilities, rather than trying to redesign something that was never intended for such use - A Chevy Volt sounds like the perfect car for ...

Re: Level One Charger Won't Charge

Not sure what's happening here, but problems with the 2012 OEM Panasonic EVSE's are pretty rare. If it's the original and hasn't been modified, it should be an 8 amp only unit and that shouldn't have been able to replace 15 miles of charge in only 45 minutes - The OEM 8 amp units are painfully s l o...

Re: Accessorizing on the cheap!

Never thought about updating the maps in either of our 2012's - Mostly because they are local cars for us and we never go more than 35 miles from home . . . . and I know those roads better than any map update! Sounds like you found a great car and at a really good price, which is pretty easy to do i...

Re: 4 Steel rims, TPMS, and hubcaps

. . . . but, there are still zero 14 inch options for LRR tires, which is what most EV drivers would be looking for. Also, I would imagine it's pretty hard to find same brand, same model tires in the front and rear sizes (which would be important to me) especially when you have to source them from d...

Re: 4 Steel rims, TPMS, and hubcaps

If the 14” conversion is an option for you, I recommend it. Lots more tire options. And rims are a dime a dozen. That kinda, sorta flies in the face of reality. I drove a Miata for 20 years which came with 14" tires and eventually *most* owners had to upgrade to 15" wheels because the cho...

Re: New Replacement Traction Battery - Changes in Construction

Do we know for sure that the replacement batteries Mitsu is installing under warranty are actually 'new'?? Do we know for sure that they contain the newer LEV50N cells?? Has anybody (so far) actually opened one up to see what's inside? The battery warranty is for 10 years - If you get 9 years out of...

Re: Battery usage time calculation

When you think of inverters and what it takes to power them, remember it's a ten to one ratio. 1800 watts at 120 volts AC is 15 amps and that same 1800 watts at 12 volts DC is 150 amps . . . . plus, there is usually a 10 to 15% loss in converting from 12 to 120, so it may be more like 165 or 170 amp...

Re: Battery usage time calculation

Batteries are notoriously non-linear when it comes to available capacity vs. current draw (i.e., output power). The more current you draw, the lower the Ah rating. For example, a very high-quality Deka Dominator Gel deep-cycle 4D battery has a 20-hr rating of 183Ah but a one-hour rating of 122Ah. I...

Re: iMiEV in 2021!

What would one expect for battery fade of a MY 2012 I-MiEV with 27000 km on it? Loss of battery capacity can be all over the place. High miles can be a big part, but so can how the car was treated. Many 2012's didn't sell very well, so they ended up on a $99 per month lease program after they had b...

Re: iMiEV in 2021!

Looking good to me. This car contains the improved LEV50N cells and the CHAdeMO quick-charge port with associated battery cooling/heating system. I *think* the exterior mirrors are heated and it may also contained the redesigned OBC/dc-dc. . . . . and, it has the optional CVT transmission - Very ra...
