Re: Troubleshooting and repair for On-board Charger (OBC), DC-DC Converter

I believe it's been determined that the primary cause of the On Board Charger failures (the $4K unit that charges the high voltage traction battery) is that it overheats. It's water cooled, but the cooling system doesn't remove much heat and on a warm day, it gets really hot inside. Kiev took many t...

Dash Dissassembly

Has anyone ever taken apart the lower portion of the dash? I'd really like to get to the back of the 12 volt outlet to splice in a triple outlet to power an ever increasing array of add ons. In my wife's car there is an aftermarket back-up camera, a dash camera and a 12 volt cord that runs her oxyge...

Re: Battery light

Should still be good if it's only a year and a half old . . . . but, problems like you're describing are frequently caused by a weak battery or one with poor connections.

What problems (if any) did you experience a year and a half ago that caused you to replace the battery?

Re: Battery light

How did you 'check' the 12 volt battery?

How old is it?

Re: Warranty on Bianco's battery after 95k miles.

Mitsu (the company) has been very good to me also. Like several of us here, we have two of the cars, driven daily. Unfortunately, about a year after we bought the first one, our local dealer folded up and went out of business. The next closest dealer in Mobile Alabama does not service EV's. That lef...

Re: 12V battery BCI Size?

I *finally* got around to replacing the battery in our second car today. The OEM one was 7+ years old and had never shown any signs of getting weak, but I prefer to change things before they cause me problems. Used a Miata AGM again like I did in the first car 3 or 4 years ago. Ordered from Battery ...

Re: Got Solar!

ed5000, your tankless water heater is drawing 112.5 amps at 240vac?? . . . . and no matter when it runs, day or night, it will be using juice from the grid because your solar can't supply that kind of power, can it? A standard 55 gallon electric heater with a 4 Kw lower element wired to run on 120 ...

Re: Got Solar!

I installed a 4 by 10 foot (AE40) solar water heating panel on my roof 12 years ago with two 55 gallon storage tanks in the basement. Total coast was about $3K but I got half that back when I filed my taxes. It has paid for itself many times over and I figure the electricity it saves me is about the...

No, not a scandal, per se, but close sometimes and yes, it is fair to not get back the same amount as you pay because the distribution costs are a large part of the overall price But we do have our . . . . well, I guess maybe 'scandals' is the appropriate word built into what we pay over here in man...
