Re: Anyone tried wrapping iMiev with glossy vinyl?

Since this thread came back, I'll chime in. I will say also, that when I first started looking at i-MiEVs, I originally went for silver but ended up with white once I saw both in person. Now I have one in white and one in silver. Had the 2014/2016 blue been available in 2012, there's no doubt that's...

Re: Drivetrain transplant

Plug in some more of the components, and it'll likely stay READY. Namely, I think the car needs to talk to the heater and A/C systems.

Re: FYI brake vacuum pump recall for early 2020

Do you hear a pump run when the car is started? Usually, a persistent tone and BRAKE light indicates no vacuum assist. When everything is working normally, it's possible to recreate this by rapidly pumping the brake pedal. See video here for the sound of the pump: https://open.lbry.com/@PV1:9/imiev_...

Re: FYI brake vacuum pump recall for early 2020

Just got the notices in the mail for both of my cars. Maybe now I'll get the airbag fixed in Bear while I'm at it.

Re: Shifter starting to have problems

The RBS light would be caused by the redundant gear switches in the selector box not matching (think being in-between gears). This would go away with lubricating the shifter linkage at the gearbox. WD40 makes for a decent cleaner, but isn't that great for lubrication. Motor oil penetrates the bearin...

Re: additional electric heater

Heat and air conditioning are two completely separate systems. The heater circulates water from a water-based heater element through the heater core and back to the reservoir. The air conditioner is a conventional, refrigerant-based system that circulates refrigerant between the condenser coil in th...

Re: Fuel gauge vs tortoise

Also worth noting is normal behavior of the charge gauge. Around 12.5% charge, the bottom bar (1st bar) disappears. Around 10.5%, the turtle (tortoise) light illuminates, and the car will disable cabin heat and A/C and allow only the fan to run (if the cabin air system is active). So, there is norma...

Re: Our Gas Free Miles Travelled

Bear has around 46,000 miles. Koorz is at 25,000 (bought with 19,300 miles on it), and my Bolt just turned over 23,000 miles. So, that's a total of 74,700 electric miles in my fleet over the last 7 years.

Re: Fuel gauge vs tortoise

At this point, I would invest in an OBDLink LX bluetooth and the Android app Canion. This will allow you to see what the cell voltages are within the pack. The pack may simply be way out of balance.
