Re: iMiEV as workhorse

Hi Bradley, The DC~DC converter can take power out of the big battery at a rate of about 80 amps x 12 volts = 960 watts. Your 8A, 120V saw pulls 960 watts, so on paper a good match. Except the 12VDC > 120VAC inverter power conversion losses take some of that power, and the I-MiEV DC~DC converter isn...

Re: 12V battery BCI Size?

Hi Folks, Last week Maeve would not go to Ready. She is a 2014, so 12V starting battery is about five years old. Checked the battery and water was low, added some, charged at one amp for an hour and everything was ok. Bought a 21#, 9.5Kg Braille B3121 AGM battery. These are marketed toward race cars...

Re: Illinois Insanity

Hi, WMC,

I think it's a great idea.

Of course it needs to be accompanied by the $10,000 tax for internal combustion ownership.

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Re: Hill Climbing!

Hi Joe, Thanks for the ASC-disable reminder, though my guess is ASC may actually be helpful in the situation described. With aired-down snow tires I bet it could go up any steep dirt road around here, limited only by ground clearance, on the really rutted roads. Mitsu could say the I-MiEV is sorta l...

Hill Climbing!

Hi Folks, We live in the mountains of western North Carolina, USA. Our house is at the foot of a mountain and easily accessible. Our neighbors are at the top of a rutted, dirt/gravel road that is quite steep and curvy. Our front-engine, front-wheel-drive Honda Fit can make it up there, but it is a b...

Re: 12V battery BCI Size?

Hi PBUI19, Can this battery be charged at below freezing temperatures? Does it freeze where you are? Lithium Titanate batteries can be charged below freezing, will likely be on the market before the end of the year. Thanks and good health, Weogo [quote="pbui19"]I am so tempted to try out t...

Re: Global Warming's Terrifying New Math

I would love to see a big jump in battery life, capacity per pound/weight, use of easily available materials, faster charge times. An EV driving friend just retired last year from a career as an automotive engineer. He thinks we are approaching the limits of the laws of physics with currently availa...

Re: New Honda EV . Similar IMIEV idea!! It’ll work???!!!

Hi Folks, From the pictures it appears to be smaller inside than the I-MiEV. For me, the bigger volume is important. Any idea how much it weighs? The relatively light weight of the I-MiEV gives it a bit of a lower power draw going up and down the mountains that surround my house. (A LEAF weighs abou...

Re: Power the house with MiEV battery?

Hi JoeS, "even though it could provide much more power, I personally wouldn't want to draw more than about 100W out of an inverter hooked up to our i-MiEV 12v battery (the car in READY), especially nowadays as our OBC/dc-dc is proving to be iffy." Ah, I see the light. For the EV expo I'm g...
