Re: 240V Charging and Extension cables (Amazing-E)

You actually did a pretty good job of describing your situation, but the video adds depth to your dilemma. My preference would be to add a couple of small 20A circuit breakers at your input panel, run a conduit across the basement, bring the power out through the brick wall, and if you're ambitious ...

Re: Problem With Putting Car Into Park

veimi, good question. I'm not aware of any sensor on that pawl (actually, properly should be called a sprag) which detects engagement. I'm pretty sure that it does not necessarily engage on the level, as my procedure is to pull the hand brake and then put it into Park. This avoids the slight car mov...

Re: 240V Charging and Extension cables (Amazing-E)

...So the EVSE has to plug into a connector that is right by the car on the end of a cord and waterproof. I have 2 10 gauge 120V cords now. 50 foot and 100 foot. I could use one of those for the new configuration if I replace the connectors...the question is - with what? Because I have not found a ...

Re: 240V Charging and Extension cables (Amazing-E)

bradleydavidgood777, to better understand the connector wiring, google "nema wiring chart" which will show you the myriad of ways every connector should be wired. Three-wire 240vac circuits utilize HOT-HOT-GROUND. The reason the US code was changed to require four-wire instead of three-wir...

Re: 240V Charging and Extension cables (Amazing-E)

Ouch, I had written the following before seeing the response, so I'll throw it in here, and I see we're pretty much on the same page - Although I've usually tried to plan ahead and future-proof things, there is a lot of merit to what Don says, so let's see what happens if we try for low-cost i-MiEV ...

Re: 240V Charging and Extension cables (Amazing-E)

My 100Amp main box is full so I would need a sub box or a new 200Amp box which I know is expensive. Code will probably not allow an additional sub-box. If you upgrade your main panel to 200A, then go ahead and run the conduit and put in a NEMA 14-50 outlet, as this will future-proof you for your ne...

Re: SILVER 2012 MITSUBISHI I-MIEV WITH ONLY 18,000 MILES - CARMAX RECONDITIONED

Macarose, thank you for coming back with your answers. DCQC = DC Quick Charge, the ability to recharge the i-MiEV at a high rate (usually 50kW) instead of the normal Level 2 3kW rate, utilizing an external high-power DC charger. A good option to have when taking longer trips. The i-MiEV uses the Jap...

Re: SILVER 2012 MITSUBISHI I-MIEV WITH ONLY 18,000 MILES - CARMAX RECONDITIONED

macarose, thanks for listing. A few questions -

1. Have you performed a battery capacity measurement and, if so, what was the reading?
2. Is this an ES or SE? If SE, is it a Premium?
3. DCQC?
4. What options?
5. How long have you owned it and why are you selling it?

Re: Battery Balancing L1 vs L2

The "time-out" which occurs after the start of charging I've seen last anywhere from 6 to 20 minutes. Especially infuriating when it occurs at a public charger and one wants to get on with it. IIRC, we even had a report of a public charger shutting off, thinking the i-MiEV had stopped char...

DBMandrake, I think we're on the same page and perhaps with your permission I might move this efficiency discussion to a separate thread if you wish to continue it - finding these conversations within mis-titled threads in the future is difficult. My RR always goes up after leaving home: I live up a...
