Re: Weird Charging Curve

When a ChargePoint station charges at just 1.1kW after a MiEV induced pause, I have found that calling ChargePoint and asking them to reboot that station will get the rate to return to 3kW, without having to physically go to the car to start a new session. Wow! Good information. Guess we'll have to...

Re: Electric Car Review Talking Points

One of the very nice features of our i-MiEV, first pointed out by IIRC jray3, is the fact that we can immediately start driving it after obtaining READY; in other words, there is negligible time delay from getting into the car and starting to drive it. In my driveway I buckle in while the car is mov...

Re: Turtle at Half Charge Under Load?!?!?!

The car is mostly charged on level one overnight. About two days a week it is drawn down to two bars. I'd be inclined not to take her down that much if you can help it. Do get an app and bluetooth OBDII adapter asap and measure those cells so you can better assess the situation yourself and see if ...

Re: Turtle at Half Charge Under Load?!?!?!

Graveaxis, sorry to hear and thank you for posting your video. Yes, "under load" is important information and I modified the title to reflect that. What year and how many miles does your car have? I note that the outside temperature was 32°F at the time you took the video. Totally agree wi...

Re: Got Solar!

ed5000, your tankless water heater is drawing 112.5 amps at 240vac?? :o Wow! Makes our car charging currents seem puny. Just how big is the circuit breaker for this thing? Good that you relocated the water heater location. When I designed my house, I located my (electric) water heater centrally with...

Re: Mitsu Tech said I set car to not charge on Mondays

logicalmethods, glad to hear the 12v battery replacement solved your car's erratic charging behavior. 1) The 12v battery is the source of most of the problems experienced by the i-MiEV, although it is normally not an issue while the car is charging (because the dc-dc is keeping the 12v at the proper...

Re: Care and Feeding of the OBC/dc-dc

Depressing the button on the J1772 connector while its plugged into the car results in a seemingly-instantaneous relay click in the EVSE. The resolution of my power monitor isn't good enough - need a scope. Edit: Update. This morning I paid attention and I could swear that the sequence was (the car ...

Re: Got Solar!

ed5000, does your water heater have a heat pump? I have a GE GeoSpring, but it had issues and I've modified it for TOU.

Re: Care and Feeding of the OBC/dc-dc

Coulomb, thank you very much for your detailed explanation with the schematic - I should have reviewed the J1772 interface myself before posting. The concept of the J1772 switch triggering the vehicle controller to first ramp down the charging power had escaped me. Presumably, using the Remote does ...

Re: Care and Feeding of the OBC/dc-dc

This post is about turning OFF power to the car when charging. There are four ways that the car turns off charging - 1. When it is fully charged, the OBC sends a shutoff signal to the EVSE which stops the power flow 2. When timed using the Remote, presumably the Remote receiver sends a signal to th...
