Re: Need a longer range ev

Long-timers here are familiar with my affectation for Pusher Trailers. The latest iteration is now running, and I hope to post some driving reports early in the new year. http://karmanneclectric.blogspot.com/2018/12/even-rangy-ier.html No, I'm not taking it on our annual 2500 mile Christmas road tri...

Re: one month winter iMiev non-use in Canada - what to do?

I'll wager that a big part of the shifter/mode switch getting sticky or immobile would be not only salty roads, but the amount of time spent immobile. Mine spends more time wet than dry, but being in constant use, the friction parts stay polished. However, this weak point was designed into the car, ...

Re: Need a longer range ev

Congrats Doug- I'm not aware of any accessories to the Volt other than the L1 EVSE. According to their owners forum, the Gen 1 volts use their regular key fob for remote start, but also have an OnStar app. Are you going to have a garage for that car? If not, I'd lean towards a used one. Besides, Vol...

Re: long-term parts availability ?

Mitsubishi USA will have to support the 2016 new i-MiEV warranties, so that ensures parts on the following schedule. Overall thru 2019 Powertrain and Restraint System thru 2021 Battery thru 2022 Corrosion/Perforation thru 2023 I believe that the line is still running in Japan, and though US sales fi...

Sure, this website will reproduce your Monroney sticker with the full list of options. Just input your VIN in place of this one.

Re: Battery warming system

Battery warming has been discussed a fair bit, but I'm not aware of anyone hacking their onboard battery warmer yet, probably for fear of losing a warranty claim. The earliest battery warranties in the USA don't expire until December 2019, but mine will expire at 100,000 miles within the next few mo...

Re: Pack Voltage versus SOC graph or table ?

So it looks like when the pack is new the BMS doesn't push the voltage of the cells very low (still 3.7 volts for 0% SoC, even at 38Ah) but as the cells degrade and lose capacity it is willing to push the cutoff voltage lower. Thank you for that observation! It is understandable that the designers ...

Re: Simple question about chargers

Glad to hear the new LEAF will sustain high current DCFC better than the old, but I’m not confident in their battery thermal management yet, and therefore service life. The BOLT tapers off pretty quickly on DCFC, making it much slower overall than a TESLA on a long road trip.

Re: Simple question about chargers

I can see why you're confused- even a good amateur electrician would find the mennekes Type 2 connection confusing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_2_connector I believe the bottom line is that yes, if you get a charging cable with the Mennekes connector, you will get the maximum 3.3 kW AC chargi...

Re: 12 kW chademo charging

Thanks to some trading with an electrician, I am now the proud owner of a CHAdeMO handle and long cordset to complement the salvaged i-MiEV CHAdeMO inlet that I picked up a while back. It is a first generation Yazaki CHV-03 (the heavy metal handle), removed in a station upgrade to the lightweight pl...
