Re: iMiEV as workhorse

PV1, my sources say the engine weighs 220 lbs at full fighting trim. The weight was no issue. FWIW, I redrilled the hitch tube for minimum space behind the bumper, which reduces the moment arm and pretty much eliminates driveway scraping!

Nope, just hauling a greasy engine to the shop and didn't want to crank up the truck...

(Aargh, still can't get the hang of posting photos to this forum!)

Re: Power Hungry Vacuum Pump

Sorry to bear bad news, charliejuliet, but the higher amp readings may show that your original pump was already struggling against some corrosion! A pad of filter material banded around the exhaust port might reduce the salty spray getting in there... I've long wanted to add a rear belly pan for imp...

Re: Power Hungry Vacuum Pump

I'm slightly confused in that page 12 of the safety recall bulletin shows the 2010-12 vacuum pump that was recalled to be all-metal construction, matching the photo of charlijuliet's replacement pump. Later pumps have a black plastic housing, which is what's in my car (and the spare that I salvaged)...

Re: Power windows and power lock switches

FYI: The passenger window on my mother's used i-MiEV gradually became less responsive and then froze in the down position. Removing the driver's armrest revealed a loose connection that fixed the problem 100%. This car has an aftermarket stereo and bluetooth, etc., so there may have been previous wo...

Re: Troubleshooting and repair for On-board Charger (OBC), DC-DC Converter

Is that the case? Those of you with dead chargers..... Do you power your evse on a timer or separate switch? Good theory, but I plead not guilty. Mr Bean’s charging sessions normally end automatically or via the proximity switch on the J1772 handle. I’ve unplugged 120V from the wall before disconne...

Re: Life with Chevy Bolt EV

Calling around to different dealers, the price of one factory wheel ranged from $395 to $800. I ended up buying a full set of aftermarket wheels for $700, which gives me a full spare and two winter rims from the remaining 3 OEM wheels. After hitting a big block of wood, one busted wheel/tire, a re-...

Re: Charging from 48V DC

Indeed Don, and DC-DC converters can be as low as 60% efficient, though I think ours should be in the 90-95% range. They are a major culprit in killing EV conversion battery packs, and their standby losses can EVen kill the 12V battery if you only disconnect the HV side when the car is stored. I've ...

Re: A New Tire For Us!

full power around a corner from a stop' got me to thinking - Don't think I've ever done that in the wet or the dry Don Yup, applying full power at the apex of a wet turn when already at speed may kick on the safeties too, but it's usually more dramatic when turning at very low speed, when one wheel...

Re: evaluate battery of used 2012 on dealer lot/test drive, HOW?

Hello again Paxfamilia, The CanIon app won't work on iPhones, and is a bit picky with different Android devices and bluetooth OBDII scanners. Myself and others have iCarsoft plug-in scanners that work just like the dealer's MUTIII diagnostic tool, but those also require some familiarization, probabl...
