Re: Replaced My Pack!

Regarding that 65 mile airport run, I guess I neglected to say that yes, of course I exercised “rather attentive driving”. Hypermiling an I-MiEV is the epitome of attentive driving. However, I did not set out to hypermile on the outbound leg- I was simply faced with gridlocked highway traffic so too...

Re: Replaced My Pack!

The replacement battery continues to improve, or more likely, the slow BMS recalibration continues. For the first time in several years, I made an airport run without charging. That’s a 65 mile round trip, on a battery that was cold-soaked near freezing at both ends, on snow tires! I arrived home wi...

Re: FYI brake vacuum pump recall for early 2020

Especially for those of you with distant dealerships, I'd recommend that you call ahead and confirm all is ready for your repair, and in no uncertain terms. I scheduled my recall appointment for Jan 20th, but had free time yesterday on the 15th. I called to check for an open appointment, mentioned t...

Re: Charging two i-Mievs

Sounds reasonable, though you might be able to install the 14-50 outlet near the garage door and on the passenger side such that the EVSE's original cord will reach the charging inlet when the car is parked inside or outside without any extension cord. I did this, simply running the J1772 cord benea...

Re: Anyone install the Navigation system / backup camera?

I tried to install the Premium Double DIN navigation unit in a 2012 base trim. The brackets matched, but the necessary extra wiring harnesses were absent and even the three connections to the basic stereo were keyed differently so as to not fit. I didn't go further with it and kept the nav unit as a...

Re: Charging two i-Mievs

Charging two cars EVen with the 8 amp EVSEs on a single circuit would be running a 20 amp circuit at it's absolute maximum (derate by 20% for a continuous load). My household now has two electric daily drivers (we added a 2016 Kia SOUL EV), and though I had fretted about coming up with two L2 EVSE o...

Re: FYI brake vacuum pump recall for early 2020

Wow, MR BEAN is also a one-percenter! Impressive for a 2012 that already had the previous vacuum pump replacement...
I'd love to see some detail on this fix versus the previous fix.

Re: Wallbox Quasar or other bi-directional chademo

EXCELLENT! I’ve been waiting for such for a very long time, and unlike TESLA announcements, this one comes with actual specifications, though no details on how it handles changeover in a grid outage. UL1741 dictates a quick disconnection during power failures. After more reading, I see no emergency ...

Mini E

Waaay too long after the test fleet of Tesla-batteried Mini E cars were parted out, a replacement arrives at essentially the same pricing that our I-MiEV launched at in 2011 (a $29k base model and $35k Premium edition). Of course, today that gets you twice the range, more than twice the power, and f...
