i would guess that you do need to clear the fault codes--do you know what DTCs were thrown? Do you have an OBDII scann tool to read and clear DTCs?

Even though you bought a new aux battery, did you ever charrge it to full? No telling how long it set on the shelf at the store. A weak aux can cause intermittent operation and faults.

i use a i909 from iCarSoft on my 2012 miev; not sure if it works for the 2016 models.

There may be some phone apps which can do this using a wireless OBDII device, maybe those developers will respond to your request.
