Re: Chains

A really good thing to carry in the winter is a gardening shovel/trowel (because it's small) and a gallon sized zip lock bag full of dry sand, or cat litter, or fine-ish landscape gravel. Between that and the disabling of the traction control (if needed) will get you out of just about any "Stuc...

Re: EV prices in the next 3 years.

It's likely that you spend much more than $1,000 per year on gasoline. People are always a bit amazed when they actually do an accurate accounting of gasoline expenditure. Fueleconomy.gov can help make it easier to figure what it does actually cost you annually. - Actually did the math on this and ...

Re: EV prices in the next 3 years.

It's likely that you spend much more than $1,000 per year on gasoline. Eh, $1000 sounds about right to me. Average driving is said to be 10,000-15,000 miles a year... let's assume 10,000 for simplicity. A typical ICE car gets 25 MPG -- that's 400 gallons/year. And the price of gasoline is hovering ...

Re: Future of Public EV Charging

Thanks for making the thread Joe! I love my MIEV. I bought it solely for my 84km commute and it does that well although in the cold winter I come home with 2-3 bars so I’ve had to use a public charger at times. Charging for 12-13 hours overnight when I get home only gets me to 14-15 bars and I stil...

Re: EV prices in the next 3 years.

Oversimplified example : I buy a 10 000$, 2012 i-Miev and save 2000$ in fuel over the next 2 years. Total spent : 8000$. OR, I wait 2 years and, MAYBE, can get a 2014 for 7000$. Total spent : 7000$. How do you think the market prices for EVs are going to change in the next 3 years? Couple of points...

Re: 2016/17 Passenger Air Bag Recall

I read an interview with a chemical engineer from Takata. He had quit when they decided on a less expensive, less stable propellant compound than what is most widely accepted in the industry. This was to cut cost, increase market share and boost profits. As this engineer warned them at the time. Ove...

Re: Not Charging. Main Inverter Fuse blown

They're doing the work right now. I'll let you know how it goes. Looking forward to your report on this! Reminds me, even though the dealer price for this "repair" is obscene! It's not any different for an ICE. Way back in 1990 I had a piston Gaul on my (bought new for $9,000) 1986 Jeep c...

Re: Traction battery going bad or something else?

The only way i can see for smoothing to be effective is to turn on all the balancers except for the lowest cell and try to bleed them down to the target value. This could be done at any SOC while the car is stationary and not charging. If there were any charging currents greater than 0.1 Amps, then...

Re: Traction battery going bad or something else?

The i909 from icarsoft will do everything except programming also, and it is much less expensive--but i don't need another data-reader, i want all the functions so i can do cell smoothing on my own time... Cell smoothing may also include charging to a higher voltage. But certainly it's main functio...

As with most warranty replacements, or repairs you only get the remainder of your original warranty on the new traction battery.
