Re: Battery Capacity Testing

By "calibration charge", I meant to charge from the blinking 1-2 bars to 100%. My understanding is that when the guessometer hits 2 and below bars, the BMS goes into some sort of integration mode to reset the available Ah. In fact, I don't understand how does the software calculates and re...

Re: 12V battery BCI Size?

I happen to have a couple of those UPS 7A LiFe lying around unused, and no I would not pay the extra $ just to get them. It just bugs me that the EV manufacturers are still using lead for the aux, and in particular Mistu because of the potential harm to the charger/inverter. In general, EVs are so &...

Re: 12V battery BCI Size?

I am so tempted to try out this LiFe 12-v aux lead replacement: https://www.batteryspace.com/lifepo4-battery-12v-9ah-108wh-18a-rate-with-led-indicator-replace-sla-12v-7ah-lighter-weight-and-higher-capacity----un38-3-passed.aspx While the spec specifically says "Must use LiFePO4 charging circuit...

Re: Battery Capacity Testing

Thank you for your instruction, I was able to get Hobdrive to work; and indeed the Ah is same value as from Canion. I did get the dreaded warning light car-with-!; but it went away upon restart. I am glad to see the 12v-aux voltage display, is there a way to plot this voltage ? my thinking is the pl...

Re: Battery Capacity Testing

Canion, Hobdrive, and Evbatmon will all give the HV battery Ah capacity. Canion is free but requires a more expensive STN11xx adaptor (such as OBDLink LX) and will not work with a cheap ELM327 adaptor. Hobdrive has a free version and will work with a cheap ELM327 adaptor so is probably the cheapest...

Re: how to limit dcqc rate

Thanks for your comments PV1. So each bar does not represent 1 kwh then ? I've always thought that was the reason behind the 16 bars full scale.

Re: Care and Feeding of the OBC/dc-dc

I too very much appreciate this thread. Some thoughts: We had noticed early on that the 12v aux batt gets drained if we lock the i using the fob button; so I've gotten into the habit of only to lock with the button on the door. The other source of drainage is the ODLink brick for Canion, so I only p...

Re: Power the house with MiEV battery?

I have a set up with an external 12v 4kwh LiFe external pack to drive a 2000w dcac inverter. I can jumper the iMiev (or a Volt/Bolt) 12v to add charge to the external pack. But a recent test to power a 2 hoses portable ac/heater heatpump drew 120A on the jumper cable. Even a 6awg cable was getting w...

Re: how to limit dcqc rate

I may be a bit panaroid about this, as the duration above 40kw only lasts a few minutes. There is a 25kw station and I've used it. if I can trick the BMS to think the SOC is around 50%, then the charge rate is limited to ~20kw. I am afraid it involves hacking the CAN bus messages. But I think I need...

how to limit dcqc rate

so I am finding myself doing dcqc almost exclusively this winter for a number of reasons: paranoided about on-board-charger failing, cooler weather, a free station 1-mile from home, and another practically free ($0.06/kwh) on the way home. Because my house is at 2200-ft elevation, with a 50-mile rou...
