Re: charging cable pulled out when car started moving

Another solution to this problem would be to glue a piece of closed cell foam rubber to the inside of the access door. When you close the door, it would push the rubber piece against the connector body sealing it from any road crud. Worth a look anyway. The Volt and Tesla Roadster do this. I still ...

Re: Head Rest

Recently on the Australian Electric Vehicle Assoc. forums someone with two iMiEVs in the family found that the MY2010 headrest was more comfortable than the MY2012 headrest. He swapped them about so that in both cars the driver had the more comfortable older headrest.

Re: After-market rear view camera?

My iMiEV (in Australia) came with an Eclipse-brand sat nav/stereo but no rear view camera. A camera is available as a direct plug in accessory. It integrated perfectly.

Calling Canberra iMiEV owners

Do you have an iMiEV and live in or near Canberra? If you don't know where Canberra is then I expect the answer is no! If you are in Canberra, a few of us would like to get an iMiEV users group together, at least so we know each other and perhaps to work out how to encourage more of our neighbours t...

Re: Powered Amps and the DC/DC converter 330V to 12V

While tapping into the main battery like that can get you nearly any voltage you want up to 330 volts, it's a bad idea. It will bring your pack out of balance and really butcher your range. We're not even sure if the car can rebalance the pack fast enough to support using a block of four cells to r...

Re: Buying and i-Miev in Australia - different screen/radio

Not sure about the Canberra structure but here in Qld the solar panels are set up so that your home makes use of the solar first, any overflow is what gets sold back to the grid as green electricity. You are sort of right but it is not the full story. Yes, you would be on a 'net' tariff. That is, y...

[quote="bindi"]...It is a lifelong dream of mine to have an electric car and not use fossil fuel to drive (we have solar panels)…./quote] Hi, That is great. I always try to emphasise that running a car on renewable power is the whole point. However, did you, as most did, trade in your 'STC...

Re: Buying and i-Miev in Australia - different screen/radio

Also in Australia. I just got one as did a couple of friends so now there are three more on the road in Canberra. I agree with the previous comment about the LCD display. Nice to have but the other would work. The prices paid have been from A$22-25K for the three I know about. There are two under $2...

Re: Powered Amps and the DC/DC converter 330V to 12V

A not entirely serious suggestion: If you were to centre-tap the traction battery you would have a + and - 165V DC supply rails for a conventional high powered stereo amplifier with virtually no current limit. Into conventional, nominally 8 ohm domestic speakers you would get Power = square of (160V...
